Topical review Learning and memory in pain pathways

چکیده
The neurons of the central nervous system not only have the capacity to transmit, inhibit and weigh information, but they may also store information for prolonged periods of time (e.g. by use-dependent change in synaptic strength). Synaptic plasticity in hippocampus is an extensively studied cellular model of learning and memory and recent studies suggest that similar mechanisms also apply to pain pathways and may account for some forms of hyperalgesia, allodynia and analgesia. The discovery of synaptic longterm plasticity in nociceptive systems provides a relatively simple and straight forward concept for a number of clinically relevant phenomena. Here, I will brie ̄y summarize key aspects of synaptic plasticity in general. Then I will describe related changes at nociceptive synapses and discuss the potential relevance of these mechanisms for the development, the prevention and the treatment of chronic pain.

Research Paper: The Modulatory Role of Orexin 1 Receptor in CA1 on Orofacial Pain-induced Learning and Memory Deficits in Rats
Introduction: Cognitive impairment is commonly associated with pain. The modulatory role of orexin 1 receptor (OX1R) in pain pathways as well as learning and memory processes is reported in several studies. The current study was designed to investigate the possible role of CA1-hippocampal OX1R on spatial learning and memory of rats following capsaicin-induced orofacial pain. Methods: Orofacial...
متن کاملThe Implication of Androgens in the Presence of Protein Kinase C to Repair Alzheimer’s Disease-Induced Cognitive Dysfunction
Aging, as a major risk factor of memory deficiency, affects neural signaling pathways in hippocampus. In particular, age-dependent androgens deficiency causes cognitive impairments. Several enzymes like protein kinase C (PKC) are involved in memory deficiency. Indeed, PKC regulatory process mediates α-secretase activation to cleave APP in β-amyloid cascade and tau proteins phosphorylation mecha...
متن کاملاسید گالیک حافظه و درد را در موش های صحرایی نر دیابتی بهبود میبخشد
Background: Complications of diabetes can be caused by the production of free radicals, which lead to memory problems and increase the risk of dementia. Diabetics are at risk of nervous pains. Gallic acid has antioxidant properties and activity against free radicals. In this study the effect of oral administration of Gallic acid, were examined on passive avoidance memory and pain in diabeti...
متن کاملP3: Mechanisms of TrkB-Mediated Hippocampal Long-Term Potentiation in Learning and Memory
Long-term potentiation (LTP) is a process that certain types of synaptic stimulation lead to a long-lasting enhancement in the strength of synaptic transmission. Studies in recent years indicate the importance of molecular pathways in the development of memory and learning. Tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) is a member of the neurotrophin receptor tyrosine kinase family, that its ligand is b...
متن کاملIntra-CA1 administration of FK-506 (tacrolimus) in rat impairs learning and memory in an inhibitory avoidance paradigm
Objective(s): Calcineurin (CN) is a main phosphatase and a critical regulator of cellular pathways for learning, memory, and plasticity. The FK-506 (tacrolimus),a phosphatase inhibitor, is a fungal-derived agent and a common immune suppressant extensively used for tissue transplantation. To further clarify the role of CN in different stages oflearning and memory the main aim of this study was t...
